In addition to managing the social media for the San Jose Sharks, I contributed several hundred articles to the team website. The subject of these articles ranged from game previews to milestone recaps, power rankings to quizzes, straight news to social media roundups.
Below are links to a variety of articles; a full search query of everything I contributed to the Sharks can be found here.
How The Sharks Were Named
Using internal and external sources, I wrote a quick article detailing how the San Jose Sharks were first named, which now appears as the top search result on Google.
Power Rankings: Dramatic Draft Photos
The NHL is notorious for taking overly dramatic draft day photos, so I decided to poke fun at that as part of our regular Power Rankings feature.
Expansion Like Its 1991
In honor of the new Las Vegas expansion team, I researched ways in which the Sharks roster had connections to their own expansion draft in 1991 - and there was one.
Top 10 Moments of 2015-17: Natty Hatty (Plus One) For Patty
In a game against the Colorado Avalanche, Patrick Marleau scored four goals - which has a special, if slightly funny place in Sharks fans’ hearts - which prompted a short article about that event.
Sharks Players Pick Fantasy Hockey Team Names
I interviewed San Jose Sharks players to get their fantasy hockey team name suggestions.
500 For Patrick Marleau
After Patrick Marleau scored his 500th NHL goal, I wrote an article chronicling the social reaction to his feat.
Shark Emoji Is Now Available
Parodying the press releases the Sharks media relations department puts out, I wrote a satirical press release surrounding the momentous release of the shark emoji.
1,000 Assists For Joe Thornton
After Joe Thornton collected his 1,000th NHL assist, I wrote a quick article recapping the event, with a focus on the Sharks social coverage.
2017 All-Star Media Day and Skills Competition
With the amount of social content I produced for the first day of the 2017 NHL All-Star Weekend, I wanted to collect it all and make it easy to find for people who might not be following the Sharks on social. So I quickly wrote an article, embedding tweets while provided short commentary to recap the day.
Teal Tracks: Shark Week
Every year, I tried to ride the wave of Discovery Channel’s Shark Week phenomenon by creating content specifically around Sharks and sharks. One of many things I did was create a Spotify playlist themed to Sharks and sharks, and wrote an article about it. This was part of a series of Spotify playlists that we created, a project I spearheaded (including getting the San Jose Sharks verified on Spotify).
